Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, "the District", or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States. On July 16, 1790, the United States Congress approved the creation of a capital district as permitted by the U.S. Constitution. The District is therefore not a part of any U.S. state. Washington, D.C., had an estimated population of 617,996 in 2011. The city was the 24th most populous place in the United States as of 2010. Commuters from the surrounding Maryland and Virginia suburbs raise the city's population to over one million during the workweek. The Washington Metropolitan Area, of which the District is a part, has a population of nearly 5.6 million, the seventh-largest metropolitan area in the country.
Washington D.C. Roads:
According to a 2010 study, Washington-area commuters spent 70 hours a year in traffic delays, which tied with Chicago for having the nation's worst road congestion. However, 37% of Washington-area commuters take public transportation to work, the second-highest rate in the country. An additional 12% of D.C. commuters walked to work, 6% carpooled, and 3% traveled by bicycle in 2010. A 2011 study by Walk Score found that Washington was the seventh-most walkable city in the country with 80% of residents living in neighborhoods that are not car dependent.
"As you know Washington D.C. can produce some of the worst traffic in the U.S. While traveling home from work one day, I got rear ended by a young girl talking on her cell phone. I was so upset as I just purchased a brand new 2011 BMW 335xi and now it’s been in an accident. After I had it towed to the dealership; I found out there was almost $13,000 in damages. So a few weeks went by and my car was finally repaired. I was talking to a coworker and he said I should file a diminished value claim. I contacted the at fault insurance company and advised them that I was going to file this claim. The rep said there is no diminished value as it was repaired back to new condition. We all know that if there is an accident on the carfax report, we are going to lose money regardless of how well the repair was done. So after talking back and forth with the insurance company, I decided to hire an appraiser.
I first contacted Pinnacle Auto Appraisers and they were more than willing to go over all the steps of performing a diminished value appraisal. After speaking with them, I decided to shop around. I hired Pinnacle Auto Appraisers because they were the only company that really went the extra mile to explain things and the amount of knowledge they knew about diminished value exceeded all the other appraisal companies I called. Once the report was completed, I submitted the appraisal to the insurance company. They then hired another appraiser to get a second opinion. Because of how thorough and professional the diminished value appraisal was, the insurance company ended up paying me the appraisal amount. I ended getting around $6,000, which was exactly what my dealership said I would lose if I traded in. I definitely will be referring Pinnacle to everyone I know that is dealing with an insurance claim." Bill W. - Washington D.C.
